Friday Happy Hour

After several, and I mean several Friday Happy hour attempts, I am happy to report it is not a "single-friendly" event.

There's something about it that is so...cold. It's most often always a hit or miss. More of a miss than a hit so much so I can count the instances I have actually had a good time. And when I mean hit I don't necessarily mean, "Hey, let's meet a bunch of guys, have fun, exchange numbers." Nope, even though that would be nice too. I am speaking more of something that seems serendipitous, great conversation with anyone (male or female), intelligent conversation, stimulating conversation, the kind I cannot have with myself on the couch.

At the happy hours it's none at all, bland or otherwise. It's filled with groups arriving straight from work, so normally they don't have time to chat with a new friend, or they are just so sick of chatting, they just want to sit there and sip on their normally-overpriced-but-now-reasonably-discounted drink. And this goes for guys and girls. They come straight from work in their suits, just want to sit to the side and down the drinks and talk about work possibly with the same people they just spent that work week with. I wonder, isn't that repetitive? And we complain about how lonely our lives are? Why can't I make new friends, boo hoo me? Yep, that's exactly why, because we stick with what we know. More so at the Friday Happy Hour.

If you've hit jackpot at any of these Happy hours, preferably one on a Friday night, I would love to hear your opinion. Where did you go? How did you break into the working class crowd? What was your secret? After all my years of hobnobbing, I can't seem to conquer that particular subset. Until then, I would be here in Atlanta, wishing I didn't give another Friday Happy Hour a chance. :-( Knowing this you're probably wondering why do I still attempt to go to Friday Happy hour. I don't know, I'm a sucker, I guess.

It's the end of January!

It's the end of January, and my goodness where has the time gone! This year is shaping up to be like the previous years, quick, annoying and unsatisfying. Most importantly, it's just blah! But I have sworn not to let it slip by in a blah manner.

I haven't decided yet how I aim to accomplish that, especially considering I haven't made any huge strides (yet!) and look the month is almost over. But I aim to.

Where have I been for the past couple of months.

Well, I have been working and fervently look for work outside the great state of Georgia. I am now more open to whereever state. Before I was concentrating on California and sadly, California was not concentrating on me. I realized that after one too many rejection letters. I got some nibbles in November but nothing panned out. It just sort of died as we approached Christmas. So instead of Christmas bringing me a nice good present known as a New Job in a New Locale. It brought me nothing.

Worse I made the mistake of accepting my sister's invitation to come spend Christmas in Houston. Love my family but Houston is so boring though. My sister is saving up to buy a house so even more boring visiting someone who's broke. Yeah, so my hard earned vacation days were spent in the suburbs. Oh, I was so mad I could spit. It was lackluster and just bland, somewhat like the year 2011. I didn't update because there was really nothing to say...what can you say about your hard-earned vacation days being spent wallowing in the burbs somewhere. How do you articulate that?

So here we are, January 2012 almost gone and here I am. Waiting for something to happen and doing something about it.

How you doin'!

And a Merry New Year to You Too!

Since I didn't really have much time to update over the holidays (which came and went so quickly) I decided to fill this post with some of my favorite pictures from this past year, most of them taken during the course of the year from my one day trip to Coronado in June.

I also want to use this time to bid you all (all 3 of my readers!) a Merry New Year as well. I always use the word "Merry" instead of "Happy" as it not only combines the merriness of Christmas with the happiness of the New Year, but it makes the New Year not only a happy one but one that is joyful and well, merry, and we could all use some merriness in our lives.

Here's to me, to you, to us singles, and to us having a Merry New Year in 2012.
