I attended my first Nigerian"event" on Saturday. A wedding!
I haven't been to a wedding in ages. Almost a decade. My girlfriend who extended the invite made such a big ado about it. She reviewed my outfit (insisting I wear traditional garb but I said a big Hell No! to that), my hair, shoes, nails. There was so much prep work done for this wedding, you'd think I actually knew who was getting married, I had no clue. All I knew was there was a strict dress code (High Society Fabulous), and I needed to haul ass all primped and proper, in my "dressed-to-fit-in-and-not-offend" garb.

The thing with married folks which I've expressed here on end is that they think the same rules that are applicable to them apply to us singletons. It so doesn't. You can dress conservatively and proper and Betty Crocker-esque but, I don't have to. I'm here to advertise myself, my goods, my single independent government. I can't be forced to subscribe to your rules and ethics while my government is free, liberal and oh-so independent. I'm an individual that needs to assert and most importantly, distinguish herself. That's the gift/prize/reward of being single. So, after much debate and hullabaloo over not fitting in, I insisted and wore a halter dress - with back and thigh tattoos on full display.
Weddings are just joyful events filled with so much hope, love, so much love it's practically oozing with it and, positivity. I can understand why people attend them really. You just want to scoop up all that love and positivity and take it with you; all that sunshine and flowers can help you find true love in the coming week or at least, relish in the hope that HE is truly out there. That's what I felt while I was there. There were boring moments no doubt, but there were moments of sheer joy and engulfing love, it was almost moving. Isn't that really what weddings are about?
I recommend them on occasion just because, we all could really use some of that positivity and hope in our lives, even if it's just for a little while.

| A Selfie to disrupt the boredom |
Normally, I would advise that there's a time and place for a selfie. But seeing as I was so hungry and bored from all the speeches and toasts of gratitude and professions of undying love (Uurgh!), it just seemed like the right time to perfect my selfie pose.

| Dom Perignon - Finally! |
The highlight of my evening. In all my wine tasting (pseudo-alcoholic) days I've never had the pleasure of tasting this big guy here (Dom Perignon) and then they popped open a bottle right in front of me. It was like heaven in a bottle. Good thing I didn't have to drive.
