10 Cane Rum Launch at W Atlanta

I was invited (along with several others) to the W Atlanta Downtown WETBAR launch of the redesigned 10 Cane Rum Packaging & Formula. This would involve cooling off for 2 hours with complimentary craft cocktails by the Mixologists at DRINKSHOP, Kill Cliff Refreshments & complimentary hand & arm massages by BLISS Spa.

I even had a chance to view videos from the previous events on their website. This is a monthly event that occurs the first Monday of the month lasting through the summer, that is, while we can still enjoy the pool. I think the last one occurs in November. I had missed the June and July events for some reason so I was really looking forward to this one.

The event:

It was just OK. Nicely dressed people, men in business suits, women in their party gear, and then of course, me. Something didn't quite work out alright during this event. First, there were only 2 bartenders serving all these people that had been invited to complimentary cocktails for just TWO HOURS. Trying to make the best of the complimentary feature people had to grab on to as many drinks as possible, sometimes even 2 at a time. It took me at least 30 minutes to get just one drink and when I did, it tasted awful. I had choices and wanted to switch to another choice, but then, that would mean having to wait another 30 minutes. Awful start.

Then, the men in suits proceeded to turn this into some type of networking event. What is it about 10 Cane Rum and Pool Deck and WETBAR that really screams come here and network, or "let me tell you about this great financial venture" or "how you can save money on your auto insurance." Please take your business peddling elsewhere, we are here to have fun, relax, chill, take in the view and possibly dip in the pool.

Unfortunately, neither of those "fun" things happened. The stage was set for it to happen but to my dismay, no fun was had at this event. I managed to get one more drink before the complimentary portion closed down and then, as I proceeded outside to take in the breathtaking view...the rain, with huge gusts of wind that blew the pool pillows into the water, happened. I guess it had had enough of this piss poor evening as well.

So, stage set but no activity. Oh, Atlanta, get it together.
