We Need To Open Back Up

Unpopular Opinion. 

It's Sunday so imma speak my truth. 

I somewhat agree with that certain President(s) in wanting to open up the economy. Churches. Restaurants. Malls. Etc. I actually didn't agree with them being closed up initially. No hate. It just seemed so extreme. The longer we keep things shut the deeper the financial hole we're digging. Economists are already predicting a Global Recession and I reject that with every fiber of my being. When people profess it I wonder what do they stand to gain if we were? They would equally be in the recession along with the rest of us. Do they just want the opportunity to profess that they were right and guess what, we're wrong?

I suspected financial ruin when the first lockdown occurred but the longer it stretches the worse for us all. And I'm not just saying this as someone who's financially deprived. I actually hate capitalism and what it represents and what it does to people. See Nigerians and their stupidity. Pfftt!! Capitalism has single-handedly eroded the brains of some of the most intelligent Nigerians I know. It's a slow eating evil. However, we cannot stay closed and at home endlessly. What are we really waiting on? For the wave of Corona to pass us by. Is it like some wind? Like a hurricane?  Not even sure the incessant washing of hands and staying at home guides are the big prevention mechanisms. I've seen celebs preach that and end up doing a PSA on how they contracted the virus weeks later. So how did that happen? Did they not wash their hands for 20 long seconds? 

We need to move on and live healthier. Adapt more hygienic methods EVERYWHERE and move on. This new normal is not life. Can we ever hug and kiss anymore? Can we ever go to the movies on opening weekend any more? Can we even go on vacations or take work trips any more? Has the human touch been irreversibly compromised?

For me the depth of my disappointment lies with the scientists and the so-called "geniuses". Plus the stupid people who made all those action movies about saving the world from a deadly virus. Guess what buddies, that deadly virus that you conjured up in your movies is here and none of you, not The Avengers, James Bond, MI6, CIA, FBI, none of your covert asses saved us from it. You were too busy worried about immigration and cyber warfare and this one just snuck up on you. So many of these knowledge pundits, inundating us with their now useless knowledge and yet they just sat around and watched the world bleed and couldn't whip up a vaccine in this amount of time to save us from this biological warfare. 

Some folks want to save us. Some want to watch the world burn!
